Pet Vaccinations & Microchipping
Vaccinating your pet is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect them from illnesses that can be serious or even life-threatening. Whether you’ve recently brought home a puppy, kitten or rabbit, or your pet is due their routine booster, we’re here to support their ongoing health.
Our vets and veterinary nurses provide friendly, professional advice tailored to your pet’s age and lifestyle, so you can feel confident they’re receiving the right level of protection.
Dog and puppy vaccinations
Dogs can be exposed to viruses in many everyday places, including parks, kennels, daycare facilities and through contact with other dogs, even during regular walks. Puppies require a full initial vaccination course, while adult dogs need regular boosters to maintain their immunity.
We routinely vaccinate against:
• Canine distemper
• Leptospirosis (spread via wildlife or contaminated water)
• Parvovirus
• Hepatitis
• Kennel cough (often a requirement for boarding, training classes or doggy daycare)
If your dog travels overseas or regularly stays in kennels, we can also recommend any extra vaccinations they may need.
Cat and kitten vaccinations
Even cats that live indoors can be exposed to viruses carried on clothing, shoes or other animals. Vaccination plays a vital role in protecting cats from serious diseases that can be difficult to treat.
Common vaccinations include protection against:
• Cat flu (herpesvirus and calicivirus)
• Feline infectious enteritis
• Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV)
Kittens usually need two initial vaccinations given a few weeks apart. After this, adult cats require regular boosters to keep their protection up to date.
Titre testing
Titre testing is an alternative option for some pets, particularly adult dogs, to help assess whether they still have protective immunity from previous vaccinations. The test measures antibody levels in the blood, which can indicate whether a booster vaccination is needed.
Titre testing may be suitable for pets where reducing unnecessary vaccination is a priority. However, it’s important to note that not all diseases can be reliably assessed through titre testing, and some boarding kennels or daycare facilities may still require up-to-date vaccinations regardless of results.
Our team is happy to discuss whether titre testing is appropriate for your pet and help you decide on the best vaccination plan.
Microchipping
Microchipping is a simple and permanent way to help reunite lost pets with their owners. A tiny chip, about the size of a grain of rice, is placed just under the skin and contains a unique identification number linked to your contact details.
Microchipping is a legal requirement for dogs and cats. If your pet is found and taken to a vet or rescue centre, the chip can be scanned and used to contact you quickly.
We can microchip pets during routine appointments, including vaccination visits. Our team can also help ensure your contact details are correctly registered and kept up to date, giving you extra peace of mind.
What happens at a vaccination appointment?
Appointments usually last around 15–20 minutes and include:
• A thorough head-to-tail health check
• A chat about your pet’s lifestyle and individual needs
• Their vaccination, given as gently as possible
• Practical advice and time to ask any questions
We’ll also arrange automatic reminders, so it’s easy to stay on track with future boosters.
